These costume designs are from the 1987 comedy drama series: The Continental, by John Godber. The first design is for the character, ‘Gorgeous Gary’, played by Martin Ronan, and the second for a drag act in the newly established Spanish disco, of the series.

These Sony BVE 900 edit controllers were used extensively in tape edit suites in the 1990s at BBC Pebble Mill.
The following information was added by Ray Lee:
‘This was the standard edit controller control panel used in all the News Betacam edit suites. Normally it controlled 2 players and a recorder, although as can be seen from the picture there are 6 source select buttons on the top right and it could control the recorder, up to 3 betacam players, and 2 other sources. The numeric key pad could be used to enter specific time codes, and there were keys to enable the capture of timecodes as edit points on the fly, and also to trim them up or down. It allowed spilt edits where pictures and sound were edited in different places as a single operation, so for instance the outgoing sound could continue with the incoming picture and then switch to the incoming sound a few moments later. It enabled rather more complex editing than could be acheived with the Betacam front panel, and could use EDL’s (Edit decision lists).The control panel shown connected to a 4U rack controller that connected to the other equipment in the edit suite. In the late 80’s and through 90’s it was the workhorse of news and regional editing.’

This titles grab is from the Asian magazine show: East, which was transmitted in the summer, whilst its sister show: Network East
went out in the autumn/winter, circa 1990s. The weekly series on BBC 2 focussed on current affairs and issues facing the Asian audience. The links and studio items came from Studio B, with pre-recorded VTs.

Dharmesh Rajput: ‘East was the current affairs series that ran in the summer at the same time as Network East ran in the Autumn / Winter. East had different presenters depending on the documentary – a whole variety of people were used, normally chosen appropriately for the subject matter. Names such as Sankha Guha, Mark Tully, Martin Bashir, Rajesh Mirchandani, Mina Anwar, Meera Syal, John Inverdale to name a few that I can remember of the top of my head.’

This photo is of the Pebble Mill cleaning ladies in the early 1970s.
Elsie Brown was the only full time ladies cloakroom attendant and did so for about 20 years.

Judith Markall: Elsie Brown was my mom and she loved working there. We were able to catch up during the day when I worked in Planning Office. She was the only lady that was there all day as the others only worked early mornings. Yes Keith they were a great bunch !

Jane Eyre was an eleven part, BBC London drama series hosted by Pebble Mill. It went out between 9th October and 18th December 1983.
Julian Amyes was the director; Barry Letts, the producer; Terrance Dicks was the script editor; Alexander Baron the script writer; Michael Edwards the designer; Gill Hardie the costume designer; with music by Paul Reade.
The series starred Zelah Clarke as Jane, Timothy Dalton as Rochester, Andrew Bicknell as St John Rivers, Colin Jeavons as Briggs, Morag Hood as Mary Rivers, and Elaine Donnelly as Diana Rivers.
