These photos are from the Norfolk locations for the 1987 serial of Vanity Fair. This village was used for the battle scenes.

In the first photo the battle extras and riggers are in the foreground. The guy in light clothing on the extreme left by the blue van is the armourer.

Thanks to Chris Glover for sharing the photos.

Night shoot for the 1987 serial Vanity Fair, Vauxhall Gardens scenes.

Thanks to Chris Glover for sharing the photo.

The following comment was left on the Pebble Mill Facebook page:

Diane Lester: “We filmed the Vauxhall garden scenes over a few night shots at Bickling Hall, Norfolk. The cameraman in the picture is Paul, (sorry, can’t remember his surname). Dave Bushell is also in shot, well his back is.”

Photos by Chris Glover, no reproduction without permission. These photos are from the 1987 drama serial, Vanity Fair. They were taken in Sidmouth, which was standing in for Brighton. In the second photo is ‘Amelia’ (Rebecca Saire) (L) talking to ‘Dobbin’ (Simon Dormandy). Chris’s wife Wendy Bradfield made this and other costumes for Rebecca.

The following comment was left on the Pebble Mill Facebook page:

Dave Bushell: ‘On the recce the director and EM (John Abbott) had identified a stretch of concrete hard standing where the beach met the promenade on which to lay a camera track. When we arrived the day before the shoot it had disappeared under heavy shingle. John then organised a caterpillar tracked bulldozer to travel overnight along the road from Exeter. The noise as it came along the prom in the early hours of the morning woke the whole seafront.’

The following comments were posted on the Pebble Mill Facebook page:

Malcolm Hickman: ‘Paul Woolston was a real gentleman. A sad loss..’

Jane Green: ‘Yes – lovely to see Paul Woolston in this pic. I was a runner on this. Up at 3am to bus in about a hundred extras to get into costume and make up – period dress – so took hours and hours, to shoot a ball scene at the Rothschilds’ fabulous Waddesdon Manor in Bucks. Seriously hard work! Lots of tired, hot, fed up actors to placate.’

This photo was almost certainly taken after the last episode of the 6.55 Special  on 19 August 1983, outside the front of the building. The 6.55 Special was an entertainment show, which involved live music and celebrity guests.

Included left to right are:  Chris Glover (moved down south and opened a Chandlery shop); Leigh Sinclair, VT editor (2nd from left); John Burkill, VT engineer; Elaine Baldwin; Ivor Williams, VT editor; Paul Wheeldon, Communications Supervisor. It was Elaine Baldwin’s last day at Pebble Mill before leaving and working at Central.

Thanks to Jane Mclean, Ann Gumbley-Williams and Steve Dellow for identifying everyone!
