Nigel Evans, Ian Dewar and myself (Derek Price) on the way to Houston, Texas in July 81 in a DC10, to meet Vic Damone, the American singer and entertainer, and bring him back for ‘Pebble Mill At One’.

Nigel Evans and Ian Dewar spent 3 days and nights trying to repair the beast in Raffles Hotel Singapore – a ‘Pebble Mill at One’ Summer shoot in 1984 with Donny MacLeod, Paul Coia, Peter Seabrook. Eventually, an Ampex engineer was diverted from Malaysia with chips. The then Video Manager refused to let us take one of the new-fangled Beta portables as back up, so we had to borrow a Singapore TV VHS for the first part of the month. Don Cooper was camera, Roger Casstles directed, Arthur Binnie producer, Nicky Barfoot prodn. asst. Dick Bentley E.M. All our credit cards (especially Dick’s) were hammered to pay for facilities not covered by production – especially the Tiger beer.
Also used on Loch Ness on a Scottish adventure with John Smith – Whisky distillery at dawn: and the “Sealink Cycle Race” with Norman Steemson sitting in the boot of a Rover hatchback from the Isle of Wight to Sheffield.

The photos are of a studio recording in VT E between 1990-2. Editor, Nigel Evans is on the left, then Simon Bennett, with director, Philip Thickett on the right. You can see the machine room through the window on the left hand-side.
The second photo also shows Nigel Evans in VT E. The recording looks to be of a cookery programme, possibly ‘Hot Chefs’. You’ll also notice an owl soft toy on top of the monitor. The owl still exists somewhere. The owl has two eyes, a red and a green one. If it lit up red it would signify a non PAL edit IIRC!

These photos were taken in July 1987. The ones on the boat are probably from a day off on location from ‘Vanity Fair’, and the others are possibly from the journey to or from the location in Norfolk.
Included in the photos are cameraman Paul Woolston, and electrician Chris Glover, amongst others.
